wearing yellowYellow Yellow, Kiss a Fellow...
By Nielsine Archibald

From many years ago this phrase was part of a kid's chant making fun of what colors we were wearing. The chant included, "red red ,wet the bed", "blue blue, you have the flu , I want to stay away from you", and "black black, step on a crack."  This summer, yellow is the 2008 "must have" wardrobe color and the chant "yellow yellow, kiss a fellow" is the one to use. The good news is there are lots of yellow items in the stores, the bad news is yellow is not a color everyone can wear.  Here are a few ideas to add yellow to your fashion conscious wardrobe even if you thought you never could wear it.

yellow in fashionYellow is an intense color and is used in graphic design to bring attention to a point or item.  For instance, on signs when the letters are edged in yellow they stand out from the page. We use yellow highlights to bring important phrases to our attention on a page. In nature, yellow flowers are a sign spring has arrived.  For clothing, yellow can be beautiful or a disaster, and an entire outfit of yellow might be a bit too "canary-ish."  But, adding a yellow scarf to a white pants suit or white pants and a blue t-shirt show you are in style.  If yellow next to your face makes you look ill, try wearing yellow shorts or capris with a cream or white top, or a print t-shirt with some yellow in it.  Even a yellow and white print jacket can be worn with a color blouse or shirt that compliments your skin tones, and blend with the yellow. Try a navy t-shirt, white pants or skirt and add a yellow and white print jacket.  As an accessory, a yellow bag or purse adds just a bit of pizzazz to a black, white, or even a green outfit. Or use your imagination to add the summer color and maybe you will "kiss a fellow."
