- Dave and Lillian Brummet Authors Dave and Lillian Brummet (British Columbia, Canada)
endeavor to make positive changes in the world through their books, Trash
Talk and Towards Understanding.
Trash Talk has been
globally received and locally embraced in North America. Eagle Bulletin
(South Africa) and Conservation & Recycling Journal (Netherlands),
Scrap Magazine (UK) and the Warmer Bulletin (UK) are just
some samples of this global support. They were recently honored with an
award by the Recycling Council of British Columbia's Environmental Awards
2005 for the category: Journalist and Media Educator - "In recognition of
outstanding use of various media in ongoing outreach work to reduce waste
in our environment."
Book
Review by Editor Nancy Reid:
This is a very easy to read,
straight-forward book with sensible and practical ways to reuse items to
help reduce waste and pollution--with the added benefit of saving
yourself some money. Just the startling fact that North Americans
account for only 8% of the world's population but produces 50% of the
world's garbage and consumes more than 33% of it's resources, makes this
idea-packed book a "must have" for every household.
It is comforting to know that any effort one makes to reuse items,
reduce waste and recycle responsibly, actually does have an impact. What
I love about this book, is that it clearly shows the impact and benefit
for each energy or resource saving idea. It confidently tackles the idea
of Zero Waste convincingly, and makes one wonder why we find it so hard
to conserve.
Not only did I find this unique publication
a guide to managing waste, but a guide to saving money wasted on items
really not needed. The research is solid and it educates in a positive,
creative and common sense manner. It clearly shows that reusing,
reducing, recycling and refusing to purchase brands that do not use
packaging that cannot be reused or recycled, offers solutions for our
economy, our job market, our health, and the future of our earth.
