Victoria
White releases The Upside Soulful singer-songwriter
Victoria White releases her debut album ‘The Upside’, which was
produced by famed longtime ‘Earth, Wind & Fire’ guitarist
Sheldon Reynolds, and signed to legendary EWF Founder Maurice
White’s Kalimba Music label.
With the
smooth jazz and urban radio success of her sensual and exotic,
easy grooving debut single “Can't Buy Love”, Victoria White
keeps on adding to the list of cool all-star jazz and R&B
company that she keeps. The first artist signed to legendary
Earth, Wind & Fire founder Maurice White's Kalimba label, the
jazz and R&B influenced singer/songwriter was already vibing
with him, longtime EWF guitarist Sheldon Reynolds —who produced
her critically acclaimed debut The Upside —and smooth jazz
keyboard star Brian Culbertson, who played on the track “Keep On
Going.”
The singer’s poetic, easy grooving first single “Can’t Buy Love”
is rapidly climbing the smooth jazz charts, sharing space with
artists like Brian Hughes, Chris Standring and Steve Oliver and
saxman Jimmy Sommers. Most of the songs on The Upside were
recorded in a unique, cross-country way, with White sending
Reynolds the guitar and vocal tracks she recorded at home, and
Reynolds adding the bass, drums, percussion and other
instrumentation that takes her brilliant melodies and lyrics to
the next creative level. White composed every song on the album
by herself with the exception of the ambient, acoustic guitar
driven “Forgiven” which she co-wrote with Reynolds, and has a
distinctive vibe that brings to mind the exquisite, jazzy soul
simplicity of Grammy Award winning singer Corinne Bailey Rae.
Growing up in
New Jersey, Victoria White began her musical life listening to
jazz artists like Sarah Vaughn and Miles Davis. Eventually her
interest grew to embrace a wide array of styles and genres to
form her own eclectic sonic blend. Fortunately now for fans of
jazz, rock, folk and R&B, it was all of these influences that
began the rudimentary bedroom recordings of the songs she began
writing as a teenager. Years before she began working with famed
R&B guitarist Sheldon Reynolds, White was recording her voice on
one tape recorder, her guitar on another and mixing them to
create coolly primitive tracks of her earliest material.
‘The
Upside’ is a soulful journey of heartfelt music – it’s smooth,
it’s cool, and you won’t want to stop listening to this jazzy
lady.
