15th Annual Visalia Waiters Race15th Annual Visalia Waiters Race
Events Visalia is proud to announce the 15th Annual running of the “Visalia’s Waiters Race” held on Thursday, September 25th in Downtown Visalia, California!

Visalia is one town whose identity is sometimes lost to those living in LA or San Francisco.  Visalia is tucked between Bakersfield and Fresno just off the 99 Highway.   Truly one of the hidden gems of California, Visalia may not have ocean front property, be the hippest town in California or have 80 degree temperatures everyday, but we have, it has been said, the best downtown in the state.   We have a community with culture; great RESTAURANTS, and most important are the people who are involved in our community.

15th Annual Visalia Waiters RaceVisalia was established in 1852 and is oldest city between Los Angeles and Sacramento. Visalia maintains a charming, hometown atmosphere with a vibrant downtown filled with world-class restaurants, art galleries, antique stores, boutique shopping, an “outdoor gallery” featuring more than 50 murals spread throughout the community, the only free standing children’s museum between Bakersfield and Stockton as well as a children’s theatre and live entertainment which features nationally known entertainers often sponsored by Visalia’s numerous non-profits.

The 15th Annual Waiters Race presented by Events Visalia and this year’s title sponsor the Groppetti Automotive Family will be held on September 25 with racing to start at 5:45 pm.   The city will close off its Main Street for the ¼ mile waiter’s track.   The only requirement to enter is to be currently employed by a full or quick service restaurant.   Racers will wear their work uniforms with the exception of running shoes.   The full services men and women brackets will carry a tray with two wine glasses filled with wine together with a wine bottle.   The quick service guys and gals will have a burger clamshell and two plastic cups filled with soda on a tray.   Both must make the ¼ mile with all items still on the tray.   The fun starts when a glass breaks or when the runner nearing the finish line has a slip of the hand and loses the opportunity for the $1000.00 grand prize.

15th Annual Visalia Waiters RaceApplications can be found online at www.eventsvisalia.org or call (559) 334-0488 and one will be mailed to you.   Good luck to all and each bracket will be limited to the first 32 people to enter.  Registration is $25.00 per runner.

Date: September 25, 2008 in Downtown Visalia, CA
Race starts at 5:45.
Prizes are: 1st place Men & women’s full and quick service $1000.00 each, 2nd place - $500.00 each, 3rd place - $250.00 each. That’s $7000.00 in total prize money to be giving away that night!
