Visit the Tecopa Basin area on your way to
Death Valley National Park, CA

On your way to Death Valley National Park, (just over an hour and a half's drive from Las Vegas, Nevada and California's Interstate 40 from Baker, California),- Tecopa Hot Springs and the small desert village of Shoshone, are perfect places to go to explore the desert's rich, natural and cultural heritage--and just get away from it all. For more information on the area visit www.tecopaca.com and www.deathvalleychamber.org.

Tecopa Basin Artists Group:

In small desert villages at the confluence of the Mojave and the Great Basin, artists live, marvel and create wonders. We’ve shaped an ART TREK through our magical Tecopa Basin. No matter what direction you choose to journey, you’ll find open studios, community gallery, storytelling, historical and reposing spaces, as well as incredible vastness that boggles the mind. We have coalesced as a group in order to support each other in this extreme and gorgeous environment and to offer the art-minded traveler an opportunity to experience our creations.
See www.tecopaca.com  for info; links to artist’s websites; ART TREK dates and times; local events and happenings; and a map. Remember, local out here can be a great distance to a city dweller. We aim to coordinate ART TREK dates with other local happenings that might be bringing you out our way.

A family owned and operated small farm, a lush piece of greenery amidst the forbidding Mojave Desert near Southern Death Valley. Imagine towering cottonwoods and willows by a wandering stream, date palms and abundant wildlife, all hidden away in some of the most spectacular scenery the desert has to offer. The Ranch is also rich in history - the Old Spanish Trail is within walking distance, as is the historic Tonopah & Tidewater railroad bed. Hike to nearby abandoned mines if you wish, or just relax and browse through our store. We offer home grown dates, as well as other California varieties. Try some delicious date nut bread, muffins or cookies, or take home one of our unique hand-crafted gifts. Open daily - 9am-5pm. Info: (760) 852-4415, www.chinaranch.com

Death Valley National Park: Over  3.3 million acres of spectacular desert scenery, interesting and rare desert wildlife, complex geology, undisturbed wilderness, and sites of historical and cultural interest.
Dublin Caves: In Shoshone Village, you can visit the Dublin Caves where Joe Vollmer was the first prospector to carve a home for himself in the clay embankment. His friends soon joined him and a whole series of cave "homes" appeared. The last resident lived in the caves until the late '70's.
The Ranch House Inn: A historic intimate cottage decorated in simple comforts by interior designer Cynthia Kienitz. Spectacular scenery is outside every door and window. It is located on the lush and remote China Ranch Oasis which features a date farm, part of the Old Spanish Trail, the historic Tonopah and Tidewater railroad bed, abandoned mines, spectacular geology, botany, remnants of early man, and abundant wildlife including over 200 species of birds. Enjoy nature trails, incredible scenery, gourmet breakfasts and dinners. Info: (

Shoshone Museum: Housed in a building that was first built in the Death Valley boomtown of Greenwater in 1906. When Greenwater went bust, the structure was moved to Zabriskie, south of Shoshone, and later moved again to its present site where it served as a store and gas station. From the late '40's to the '80's it was a rock shop and became a museum in the 1980's. Today the museum highlights the history of this area with numerous exhibits.
