Stockton WaterfrontStockton, California
Located in California’s Central Valley Region

About Stockton, California
Located along the San Joaquin Delta waterway, connecting the San Francisco Bay and the Sacramento and San Joaquin Rivers; Stockton is the 13th largest city in California, and is also the San Joaquin County seat. The Port of Stockton is also the eastern most and largest inland seaport in the state. Because it is situated at the head of a navigable channel, along several waterways, Stockton has been, and still is, a major shipping point for many of Northern California’s agricultural and manufactured products. The access to the many waterways provides the 260,000 plus residents, and visitors, many water related activities to enjoy.

The combination of its temperate climate and rich soil, have made it one of California’s richest dairy and agricultural regions.

Stockton was founded in 1849 by Captain Charles Weber, after he acquired a 49,000 acre Mexican land grant. Stockton then became a tent settlement and supply area for the southern mines during the California Gold Rush.
Since the early days with the discovery of gold, Stockton has been home to many different cultures, producing a diverse community which is reflected in its architecture and street names, along with a wide variety of cuisines. Stockton has and does support a very active civic theater, symphony, ballet, choral groups, and a public art program. In fact, back in history when Stockton emerged as a popular entertainment destination, top entertainers including Lily Langtree, John Philip Sousa, Will Rogers and Buffalo Bill Cody’s Wild West Show performed for local audiences.

The Downtown Stockton Events Center is home to four professional sports teams playing hockey, soccer, football and baseball. The downtown waterfront district is a vibrant community featuring sporting entertainment, a combination of historic and new architecture, live entertainment, a variety of fine dining options, parks, ampitheatres, urban plazas and promenades, public art and more.

From sporting events to headlining concerts, there is always something on Stockton’s calendar including a host of annual festivals and celebrations such as the Asparagus Festival; Stockton Ag Expo; Stockton RV & Boat Show; Ripon Almond Blossom Festival; Earth Day Festival; Chinese New Year; The Brubeck Festival; Cinco de Mayo; Jewish Food Festival; Clements Stampede; Juneteenth; AG Spanos Celebrity Pro-Am; San Joaquin Fair; Annual Fishing Derby; Stockton 4th July Waterfest; Stockton Obon Bazaar; Taste of the Delta; Filipino Barrio Fieste; Greek Festival; Wine on the Waterfront; Annual Trout Bout; Festival of Lights & Boats Parade, and more.

Stockton is the hub of it all and the place to stay when exploring the city’s surrounding towns and cities including Lodi, Manteca, Clements & Lockeford, Tracy, Escalon, Lathrop, and Ripon.
