the Best In Ten Camping: New Mexico by Monte R. ParrThe Best in Tent Camping:
New Mexico
By Monte R. Parr

New Mexico is a diverse land of contrasts; of canyons, deserts, mesas, high mountains, rivers, lakes and glorious sunsets. With five national forests and 34 state parks, there is no shortage of beautiful campgrounds. With so many campgrounds across the Land of Enchantment, planning a camping trip can be a frustrating endeavor.  In THE BEST IN TENT CAMPING: NEW MEXICO seasoned camper Monte R. Parr traveled throughout the state and selected 50 of the best sites suited to tent camping that will appeal to the first-timer as well as the car-camping veteran.  “I am convinced that tent camping is the purest and most rewarding method of experiencing nature,” he says in the books’ preface. “On a brightly moonlit night, I love the shadows of tree branches dancing on the roof of the tent.  I love to watch the campfire flames and glowing embers.”

THE BEST IN TENT CAMPING: NEW MEXICO includes all the information campers need to find the perfect camp site, including:

  • Driving directions and GPS coordinates for all 50 campground entrances to take the guesswork out of the trip.

  • Ratings for beauty, privacy, noise, security, spaciousness, and cleanliness for all 50 featured campgrounds.

  • A camping-equipment checklist ensuring campers don’t leave home without any important gear.

  • Plus, the author offers a range of suggestions for outdoor recreation and nearby attractions, and useful sidebars with information on facilities, parking, pets, and fees.

From geological wonders such as Tent Rocks, Valley of Fires, and Carlsbad Caverns to Native American tribal lands to crumbling ghost towns, The Best in Tent Camping: New Mexico guides campers to the best spots to experience the rich bounty of nature and history that the state offers.

Monte Parr was a featured guest on Champagne Sundays Radio Show co-hosted by Blend Magazine Editors Nancy J. Reid and Lisa D. Smith. The show aired live on Sept. 14, 2008.
