Overview
  Most of New Mexico's Native Americans live in this region and Gallup is home to the internationally known Gallup Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial every August, with daily Native American dances all through the summer. Chaco Culture National Historic Park, encompasses an impressive stone settlement that was once the home of Ancestral Pueblo people and a center for Puebloan culture between A.D. 850 and 1250. Many of the Pueblo Indians here today, are  descendants of these ancestral inhabitants, including the Acoma, Laguna and Zuni. Bordering Arizona, this region is also part of the Navajo Nation. The Navajo Nation has three divisions, Ramah, To'hajiilee and Alamo. The Apache Nation resides in the high mountain forests near Chama.
  Pueblos include the Acoma Pueblo, Laguna Pueblo, and the Zuni Pueblo. Other attractions include the Grants Mining Museum, casinos, golf, and state parks including: Bluewater Lake; El Vado Lake; Fenton Lake; Heron Lake; Hyde Memorial; Manzano Mountains; Navajo Lake and the Rio Grande Nature Center. There is also the El Malpais National Monument, Bandera Volcano and Ice Caves, El Morro National Monument, Ship Rock Peak, Four Corners Monument, Gateway Park and Museum, Salmon Ruins/Heritage Park, Aztec Ruins National Monument, alleged Aztec UFO Crash Site, Bisti/De-Na-Zin Wilderness Areas, Gallup Cultural Center, New Mexico Mining Museum and the Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary.
 Scenic drives include the Native Heritage Trail, and part of Route 66 National Scenic Byway.
