Green Flash Seaside Summer
Concert Series

Birch Aquarium at Scripps Presents Green Flash Seaside Summer Concert Series

Join Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego, for an unforgettable summertime experience combining live music and spectacular ocean sunsets during its Green Flash Concert Series, which enters its third season beginning May 21. The concerts, co-hosted by 102.1 KPRI, take place from 6-9 p.m.

These unique cultural-arts events on the aquarium’s outdoor tide-pool plaza merge toe-tapping music with the setting sun and savory food and drinks for purchase from Rock Bottom Restaurant and Brewery. Green Flash concerts are for music lovers ages 21 and older, only. Keep an eye out for a real ‘green flash’, a rare optical phenomenon caused by refraction of light as the sun sets on the horizon.

For its third season, Birch Aquarium at Scripps is expanding the series’ musical line-up with a fresh mix of national performers. Musical styles will range from Latin rhythms to country-rock. Admission includes the concert, entrance to all aquarium exhibits and parking. Green Flash concerts support the mission of Birch Aquarium at Scripps and its newest exhibit, ‘Feeling the Heat: The Climate Challenge’.

Green Flash Concert Dates & Performers:

May 21 – ‘deSoL’:  Mixing melodic rock with fiery Latin rhythms, deSoL’s infectious music strikes a chord across cultures. These Jersey rockers will have you out on the dance floor within minutes with their sizzling, high-energy music.

June 18 – ‘Rockola’: Back for a second smashing year, San Diego's legendary Rockola (see pictured) will perform classic rock songs from the band’s extensive repertoire. Travel back to an era full of rock ‘n roll’s greatest legends.

July 16 – ‘Eric Hutchinson’: Eric Hutchinson’s witty lyrics, soul and charm combines the best musical styles of artists like Billy Joel, Elton John, John Mayer and Jason Mraz. He is making waves across the music industry.

Aug. 20 – ‘Shawn Mullins’: Best known for his Top 10 hit "Lullaby," singer-songwriter Shawn Mullins brings out his southern style of humanity, heartache and hope through guitar strumming and soothing vocals.

Sept. 17 – ‘Sarah Borges and the Broken Singles’: Sassy. Sophisticated. Meet Sarah Borges and the Broken Singles, a country-pop-rock sensation that hails from Boston. The band’s eclectic collection will bring you back to life after a long, hard day at work.
