About Escondido
Escondido is building its reputation as a center for the Performing Arts.
The California Center for the Arts have brought in groups like the Moscow
Ballet and the St. Petersberg String Quartet. It features a main concert
hall with 1,538 seats, a 408-seat small theater, a full service conference
center and a museum. The Center is now attracting working artists,
galleries and fine restaurants to the downtown area.
Escondido is rich
in culture and history and has many family attractions. The Deer Park
Winery & Auto Museum is located on 15 acres of vineyard and houses the
world’s largest auto museum of vintage convertibles and Americana. Bell
Gardens is a working farm that give visitors an experience in the art and
science of growing things and the Wild Animal Park is a 2100 acre wildlife
preserve for visitors to explore.
The San Pasqual
State Historic Park features nature trails, exhibits and a re-enactment of
the 1846 San Pasqual Battle of the Mexican-American War, every December.
The Pioneer Room in the Escondido Public Library is a full archival
facility for the research of community and family histories. The Heritage
Walk takes visitors through the first library, a barn, a windmill,
Victorian house, Santa Fe Railroad depot, railroad car and model train,
and a working blacksmith shop from the 1800s in Grape Day Park.
For outdoor lovers
Escondido offers Dixon Lake, Lake Hodges and Lake Wohlford. Dixon Lake is
open all year and has 526 acres of camping, picnicking, hiking trails,
boating and fishing. Lake Hodges is great for boating, sailing, fishing
and windsurfing and Lake Wohlford has 200 acres for camping and also
offers fishing and boating.
Other
attractions include the Welk Resort Center, Iceoplex iceskating complex
and the Escondido sports center.
THE ESCONDIDO CERTIFIED FARMERS MARKET-Downtown
Escondido, Grand Avenue and Broadway, Escondido, CA Open Tuesdays, 2:30
p.m.–6:00 p.m. Downtown Escondido's Certified Farmers Market showcases
fresh-picked California-grown fruits, vegetables, and flowers. Friendly vendors
also offer local honey, eggs, fresh-roasted nuts, pesto, fresh pasta, gourmet
European breads, Julian pies, salsa, tamales, tortillas, pita and humus,
cookies, dessert breads, and more. Located in the center of historic downtown,
the Farmers Market operates every Tuesday, year-round, at the corner of Grand
Avenue and Broadway, from 2:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. For more information, call

Association of Escondido.
Every Thursday: OPEN AIRE MARKET-1868
East Valley Parkway, Escondido, CA. Open Thursdays, 4:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m. Be sure
to visit the East Valley Association's new Open Aire Market located on the
spectacular, new Escondido Charter High School Campus at 1868 East Valley
Parkway. The market will be held every Thursday, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., to
provide an additional market opportunity for Escondido residents and visitors.
The market features many artisans and vendors selling goods varying from fresh
vegetables, bread, grilled chicken to hot tamales, and flowers. A portion of the
proceeds benefits Escondido Charter High School. This new market complements the
long-running Tuesday Farmer's Market, held on Grand Avenue in Downtown
Escondido.
