Overview:
California's deserts are a masterpiece of contrasts with mountain ranges
of jagged rock that splice into flat, sun-baked basins and sparse land. The flora ranges from the twisted
sculptures of the Joshua Tree
to flowery bursts of spring's colorful blossoms and cactus. You will be
romanced by clear, abounding blue skies and the cries of eagles and
hawks, as well as the humble desert tortoise, and take in the blanket of evening stars. Everything here is extreme: the
temperatures, colors, flora and fauna, as are the desert oasis of palm
trees, luxury resorts and golf courses, spa treatments and gourmet food.
