Newsletters for Writers - How Many Do you
Need?
by Maralyn D. Hill, Co-Author ‘$uccess,
Your Path to a Successful Book’
When I first discovered numerous newsletters
for writers, I eagerly signed up to receive
them regularly and tried to read them all.
After a several months, I realized that I
needed to de-clutter my e-mail. I was
spending entirely too much time reading tips
and not enough implementing them. All of the
newsletters contained some items of
interest. However, many were almost
duplicates of each other and extremely
lengthy.
|
So I determined which ones were the most effective for
me and bookmarked pages from the others. In this way, I
could always go to websites for reference. I kept my
favorites—the ones that I looked forward to seeing,
taking time to read and doing some of the things they
suggested.
With my
now receiving a reduced volume, the newsletters act as a call to action
and I take action where appropriate. Originally, when I was overloaded,
over 75% of these publications went in file folders, as I didn’t have
time to go through them all. I saved them for when time would magically
appear. Surprise--the extra time hasn’t appeared yet. With the less
referenced ones maintained on bookmarked websites, I can look up past
issues by topic—you could do the same.
I’m not
suggesting you get rid of all newsletters. Some are quite enjoyable and
bring a smile to my face, like
'The Daily Blend'.
Its new format is welcome as it is short and quick to read.
Incidentally, a smile is always important and it can ease your workload
if you let it!
Using
the internet for research, learning, marketing and numerous other
activities should be recognized as a tool. If you really want to be a
writer, it should not constitute an activity that takes all of your time
and interferes with your writing. |

Our Mission:
Our Mission: "Big Blend Magazine is a company based on the belief that education is the most formidable weapon that can be waged against fear, ignorance and prejudice.
It is our belief that education starts at
home and branches outward. Education leads to travel, and
travel leads to understanding, tolerance, and appreciation
of cultures and customs different to our own, and ultimately
to world peace. Our company is further based on the
principle that networking, communication, and helping others
to promote and market themselves leads to financial
stability; thus paving the way to better education, travel,
and the spirit of giving back to the community." |
