About
Angels Camp, CA
The 38,000 residents of Angels Camp enjoy a climate that changes as
drastically as its elevation does, going from near sea level in the west
to about 8,000 feet in the east. Being part of Calaveras County, Angels
Camp is right in the heart of central California’s wine country,
boasting some of the finest vineyards in the state. That coupled with
the many outdoor activities this area offers, such as golf, cave
exploring, camping, hiking, gold panning, or the wide variety of water
and winter sporting opportunities, Angels Camp is a ‘must stop’ on
anyone’s itinerary.
The community was put on the map as a result of Mark Twain’s first work,
‘The Jumping Frogs of Calaveras County," which is celebrated annually
with a Frog Jumping Jamboree, which was started in 1928, drawing over
15,000 people the first year.
Angles Camp is bordered by Tuolumne County, the recreational and
cultural center of the Mother Lode, near Yosemite National Park,
Stanislaus National Forest, and more. The region is spotted with a
variety of diners, restaurants, and lodging choices, making visiting a
delight.
